Case studies can provide a rich basis for developing students’ problem solving and decision making skills.
This module builds on students’ experience of learning through case studies presented in modules such as Ophthalmic Optics and Dispensing, Optical Dispensing 1 & 2, Case analysis and preparation for placement. During the period of practice placement students will be required to consider all cases they experience in a reflective manner. Students must submit 50 case records based on patients dispensed during their supervised practice placement. Eight of these records have to be further written up as detailed case studies which demonstrate student’s analytical skills and decision making ability.
Students will defend their records and case studies at a final viva examination
All aspects of ophthalmic dispensing role will be covered by this module including dispensing of complex prescriptions, occupational dispensing, sports eyewear dispensing, paediatric dispensing prism prescription, tint prescription, low vision appliances, adjustment of spectacles.
