Module Overview

Curating Photography

The module explores the place of photography in the curating of culture and cultures of curating. Students examine what the term curation means in contemporary arts-media contexts. The specific implications for photographers and photography are linked by students to a personal and professional statement of purpose. Students compare photography as it is encountered in print and on screen and evaluate these in terms of their accessibility and impact on photographic practices and the public. Using curatorial methods, students prototype online and print based platforms for photography to elicit debate and discussion about the ethical implications of their choices. To support peer learning students will cooperate with each other towards their shared goals.
