Module Overview

Photography Practice 12: Major Project

The aim of this module is to enable students to synthesise the skills, techniques and knowledge gained over the previous three stages into a coherent and considered approach towards realising and completing a substantial body of work. This module is the culmination of the BA Photography programme and offers the student the opportunity to demonstrate their capacity to direct themselves, their practice and their research in order to realise their Major Project. The module supports the student as he/she develops their Major Project, manages and coordinates independent study, integrates theory and practice and reflects on their practice in a wider social and cultural context. This process is guided by lecturer supervision, tutorials, critiques and seminars. Professional standards of presentation of self and work are required at all levels as students work towards the completion of a substantial single body of work for exhibition. The final project should be experimental and creative, techincially achived to a high standard, and reflect contemporary issues in photographic practices in a critical manner. The student is supported to identify where their ambitions and abilities for future practice are best placed, whether academically or professionally in the visual arts, media, or cultural sector.
