This practical skills Microbiology module will be delivered in a block of 3 days before the end of semester 1. The purpose of this module is to allow the students study the practical aspects of the Microbiology theory module being studied in semester 1.

Environmental Monitoring
-Assessment of the cleanliness of the environment using settle plates, air samplers and particle counters
Evaluation of a disinfectant /cleaning agent
Assess the effectiveness of a disinfectant
Microscopy
Use light microscope to examine selested bacteria
Aseptic technique
Transfer pure cultures and assess aseptic technique
Microbes are everywhere
Use selected settle agar plates to show that microbes are indeed everywhere
