Project 2

Project equips the student with the skills necessary to research, construct and troubleshoota basic electronic\electrical circuit. The concepts of project planning and technical report writing aredeveloped. The student is given responsibility for delivery of a working prototype on aprinted circuit board

Testing and troubleshooting techniques:

How to setup an oscilloscope and measure the frequency, amplitude, period,rise time, phase of electrical signals. How to use advanced triggering techniquesto capture a signal. How to save measurements on a PC.How to safely setup a power supply unit including adjustment of current limitingsettings. How to setup a function generator including sweep mode, offsetvoltage and waveform type.

Circuit design and construction:

Design of PCB layout, footprints, layers. Board, component and track dinemsions. DRC, ERC. Bill of materials. PCB incoming inspection and verification. Soldering through hole and surface mount components. Housing of PCB and construction of wiring harnesses, where applicable.

Verification of design:

Test and measurement of circuitry on printed circuit boards.Software development and use of software design tools where applicable. Applying troubleshooting techniques to solve problems and recording the appropriate data.

Communications:

Maintenance of log book with weekly entries. Maintaining the project plan, identification of critical paths.Technical report writing guidelines. How to write a simple user guide.
