Consultancy Project

The Consultancy Project is an innovative and practical component of the MSc Pharmaceutical Validation, which requires participants to complete a real-time project on behalf of a Pharmaceutical, Biopharmaceutical or Med Tech organisation. It is envisaged that most participants will complete a project on behalf of their own sponsoring organization. However some may choose a company or industry sector that is relevant to the next stage in their career. Also, it will be recommended that the topic selected for the Consultancy Project is outside of the participant’s current role and function within the organisation in order to maximise learning and their appreciation of the more holistic and strategic aspects of the environment within which the organisation operates. In particular, the participants will be encouraged to reflect on how the problem they are solving will impact the patient.

The Consultancy Project brings learning together in a meaningful way while giving the participant the opportunity to conduct individual research, which is specialised in nature and can be customised. It is the key programme component enabling students to realise a significant piece of individual research, which is largely self-directed, and to designed to enhance the participants consultancy skills.

Academically the Consultancy Project tests the learner’s ability to apply learning to real organisational issues and problems which are encountered in the Pharmaceutical, Biopharmaceutical of MedTech sectors. The academic submission must demonstrate the authors understanding and logical application of relevant concepts encountered throughout the programme modules. Completed Consultancy Projects will not be placed in the library or released for wider readership without the prior consent of the author

The Consultancy Project also offers the participant an opportunity to step out of the fire-fighting mode that often arises in fast pace Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, charged with ensuring a safe reliable supply of medicines to patients.

Students work independently, with support from a supervisor, and will keep a record of all meetings. Students will be encouraged to use project management methods to ensure efficient planning and scheduling of tasks.

The Consultancy Project is designed to encourage self-directed learning and students are expected to demonstrate their ability to work independently throughout the module.

Two workshops will be ran at the start of the consultancy project

 

Workshop #1

· Review of the research tuition from the stage 1 module.

· Overview of the Constancy Project and Developing a consultancy Topic

· Writing a Critical Literature Review

 

Workshop #2

· Student proposals and feedback
