Dissertation Topics

Students are free to choose their own research project topic, or choose one from a list of suggested topics. Ideally the topic should relate to their role with their employer. The topic must be in the field of software delivery and DevOps. Proposals will be made as part of the research methods module. Once a student submits a proposal it will be vetted by the research project steering committee (made up of the coordinator and academic staff involved in supervision of research projects). Proposals must have a clear description of the research problem, why the problem need addressing, and an outline of how the problem will be addressed. Once a proposal meets the accepted standard a supervisor will be assigned and the research project commences. An industry mentor will also be appointed where appropriate. Topics are expected to be varied and have followed on in the main from the taught modules. Students will be required to make presentations at regular intervals to the panel of supervisors.

Assessment

All students will be required to undergo a viva examination at the end of their research project. The examination will involve the student presenting the results and conclusions of the research. Following the viva the research will be graded based on the dissertation assessment criteria. Supervisors will not be involved in the grading process. The outputs of the research project are the thesis, a research paper of publishable standard, the viva, and any other presentations made during the module, all of which contribute to the final grade

Lecture, labs and independent study.
