Fashion Product Management & Development

The module will provide a critical understanding of Product Management and Development, and explore the relationship between the product and the buying function in a fashion related business, Understanding the process of taking a product from raw material to realisation, throughout the module the characteristics and end uses of material and fabrics will be analysed, and an in-depth knowledge of garment construction processes will be outlined. The role of ergonomics in product development and decision making will be at the core of this module in regards functionality, inclusivity and future trends. Sustainability will be positioned throughout each theme delivered within this module as a fundamental focus within the fashion industry.

The Module will cover the following elements: - Garment Production Process - Design, Development, Costings and Communications - Garment Assembly - Processes, techniques and materials - Garment Finishing, Quality Control and Garment Faults - Introduction to Natural Fibres - Introduction to Synthetic Fibres - Yarns and Threads - Introduction to Woven Textiles and Non-Woven Textiles - Dying, Printing and Finishing - Smart Textiles
