Module Overview

Long Term Athlete Development 1

The aims of this module are: • To promote a basic understanding of the value and use of physics in exercise Physiology. • To understand the basic components of human functional and fundamental movement. • To provide a broad understanding of the lower extremity exercises • To develop basic skills in the use of body weight resistance exercises. • To provide an understanding of ankle/knee/hip stability requirements • To provide an insight into glute activation and pelvic muscle control. • To instil functional movement assessment techniques (Functional Movement Screen, Physical Competence Testing)

This module is made up of 2 hours of lectures and 2 hours of practical classes per week

The fundamental theories of athlete development are considered in the lectures, while the fundamental areas of fundamental physical movement and assessment of the athlete are considered in the practical classes.

Due to the nature of the module and the knowledge and skills that are necessarily developed this module is broken down into 30% theory (examination) and 70% (Continuous assessment). This breakdown permits the module leader to put significant emphasis on the practical elements of the module and the assessment of these.
