Social Care: Placement Practice 2

The placement is an integral part of the social care programme. On completion of this practice based module students will have an integrated knowledge of the legal and ethical responsibilities of a social care worker. The student will have an in-depth understanding of the relevance of theory to inform practice and demonstrate autonomy in responsible professional decision making and actions. Students will be able to critically reflect on their continuing professional development including the role of self within practice and within their professional relationships with service users and the staff team. Students will be able to keep professional records, and be able to conduct assessments, care plans and evidence-based and evidence-informed interventions including the need to incorporate risk and safety management. The student will also be aware of self-care and be able to develop a self-care plan that considers work-life balance, confidentiality, professional boundaries, self-awareness and their use of the supervision process.

Legal, policy and management context of placement

Influence of policy and legislation on social care practice. Review the role leadership and management on practice.

Collaborative care provision

Professional record keeping. Practice planning, assessment, intervention and evaluation. Role and function of the team including service users, family members, and other professionals.

Reflection on practice learning

Personal & professional components of practice. Self-awareness & values development.Effective use of self in social care, Ethical decision making and autonomy. Reflective Practice. Models of Reflection. Professional relationships within practice.

Professional Development

Develop and awareness of self-care and the process involved in developing a self-care plan. Utilise opportunities to reflect upon professional development needs.
