Building Tech for Env Health 1

Introduction to the Built Environment, Building Technology and Building Construction relating to Environmental Health and sustainable development goals. Parallel Drawing Studio sessions.

The module aims to introduce students to the fundamentals of Building Technology as it relates to environmental health, Human Health and wellbeing. To impart a basic knowledge of Building Construction, drawing techniques, including the the use of computer aided design and the design of buildings focused on domestic dwellings construction. To introduce the concept of Building Materials and their impact on human and environmental health (e.g. Dangerous / Hazardous Harmful materials & Substances - Asbestos, Radon)

Introduction to Building Types. Ground Conditions / Site investigations. Foundations (types and Functions). Building Regulations. Rising walls. Concrete ground floors. Timber ground floors. Walling - External + Internal. Loadbearing and non-loadbearing. Review of window and door openings in walls / damproofing /lintols. Roofing. Studio drawing sessions. all considered in the context of sustainable development
