Communications for Environmental Health

This module offers students an opportunity to explore communications and psychology in the context of environmental health delivery.  The main focus is on encouraging participants to understand and improve their interpersonal skills, professional and scientific writing technique and study aspects of human behaviour.

Importance of communications to the EH Profession

Introduction to Psychology and human behaviour  

The principles of sociology and their importance to aspects of environment and health.

Perception and human behaviour , Attitudes and prejudices, changing attitudes and behaviour, behavioural intervention strategies

Interpersonal dynamics and self-awareness,  communicating and promoting the sustainable development goals

Models of communication and the process of communication, communication styles

Development of and understanding of Interpersonal skills, Questioning, Reflecting, Listening, Explaining, Negotiating,

Verbal and non-verbal methods of communication, Reflective learning and reflective writing  

Confidentiality, ethics and its importance to the EH profession, Influence and persuasion, interview skills

Groups and group dynamics and interaction,  anti-racism

Aggression, dealing with conflict, Analysis of the use of the media in Environmental Health.  

Presentation techniques. Dealing with questions and answers

Synthesis of professional, technical and scientific information in presentation format.  Academic writing; report writing, types of report
