Environmental Health Professional Practice

Environmental Health Professional Practice is seven months in duration.   Half of the placement period (3.5 months) must be spent within an Environmental Health section of the Health Service Executive.  This is required to meet the Professional criteria of Department of Health and other Professional Bodies. Garda Vetting Clearance is required in advance of commencement of the HSE placement period.   
 
The remaining period (3.5 months) can be within Private Industry which is organised between the Placement Coordinator and individual student. Private Industry Placement must meet the Programme requirements and all activities must be approved by the School.   
 
The professional practice component underpins the BSc qualification and is embedded within the programme at Stage 3.  Students will complete an extended Semester 2 on placement in Stage 3.  The student will gain experience from the regulator (HSE) and compliance perspective (PI).

Lecture based along with sample case studies reflecting the five core areas of environmental health. 

Knowledge transfer session with final year students regarding placement experience and completion of portfolio.
