Food Safety

This module applies knowledge gained to real life situations relating to food safety and examines emerging issues, with an emphasis on problem-based learning. It is a synthesis of food safety material already learned in earlier levels. It emphasises a problem-based learning approach and seeks to develop student's abilities in relation to management, evaluation, synthesis in food safety for food safety regulatory authorities and food businesses.

Emerging issues in food safety

Appraisal of food safety issues encountered on placement

Legal action as it relates to Environmental Health professionals

Management of food emergencies

International food safety management systems

Examination of case studies in single and or group student work

This module requires significant independent and group work by the student with the lecturer mainly taking a resource and advising role. It will largely be delivered through problem-based learning, examination of case studies in food safety and student seminars.  Certain aspects may link and combine with work in other modules at Level 4 to enhance integration and ability to deal with complex situations.  Some material will be delivered by lecturer, especially in relation to emerging issues in food safety.
