Introduction to Law and Risk Analysis

Aim of the course is to provide the fundamental criteria and the methodological approaches for risk assessment and risk management offering a system safety perspective for industrial operations, for production and service, in the view of minimization of operational risks. The module will also offer an overview of the Law requirements and the way those requirements are followed up in the Irish legislation. 
 
This module will offer a review of requirements and methods applied as industry bets practice in a variety of sectors: specifically considering, aviation, food process industry, heavy vehicle manufacturing, etc. It will undertakes a critical evaluation of the current theories methodologies and practices involved in risk assessment. It will also present practitioners based views of risk assessment together with an evaluation of the accuracy of the quantitative and qualitative methodologies introduced. Further it will provide also a valuable overview of available International standards on the topic. 
 The Environmental Health Officer must work within a legal framework. Therefore it is important that they understands the judicial and legislative system as well as legal procedure and administration directly relating to their role as an EHO
