Pharmaceutical Work Placement

This module involves a period of planned work experience in a relevant industry or research establishment for third year students of the BSc in Pharmaceutical Health Care Programme (TU875). It includes the area of Health and Safety Management to prepare the students for their work placement within the pharmaceutical industry regarding their health and safety roles and responsibilities.

Work placement preparation

  • CV, cover letter and LinkedIn profile Preparation and Interview skills workshops by careers services.
  • Tutorials on "Introduction to Industrial Placement".
  • Searching suitable industry or research establishment.
  • Submission of list of preferred companies from options provided
  • Insurance arrangements

Guidelines for completion of industrial placement forms.

  • Completion of initial training agreement
  • Completion of mid-placement review and documentation
  • Completion of final review appraisal and documentation 
  • Communication with academic mentor

 
Guidelines for industrial report preparation  

  • Industrial placement review
  • Oral presentation  

 
Health & Safety:

  • Risk assessment, management and communication and control strategies  
  • Personal safety
  • Equipment safety and hazards within the pharmaceutical industry
  • Chemical risk assessment
  • Fire safety management
  • Ergonomics and manual handling
  • Safety management systems 
     

The module will include workshops, lectures, tutorials and presentations to prepare students for an approved industrial placement. Implementation of risk management strategies will develop the student's critical thinking as risk evaluation involves prioritisation of control measures. The student will engage in self-directed learning and experiential on-the-job learning in a relevant industry or research establishment.
