Pharmaceutical Microbiology 3

This module further develops the area of pharmaceutical microbiology with particular emphasis on clean room technology. It also examines the role of microorganisms as producers of pharmaceutical products and mechanisms of controlling infectious agents.

Clean rooms and laminar airflow units I: design, finish, validation, monitoring. Clean rooms and laminar airflow units II: garbing, behaviour, cleaning and disinfection programmes. Antimicrobial agents I: disinfectants, antiseptics, preservatives. Antimicrobial agents II: resistance of microorganisms and biofilms to biocides. Immunological products: vaccines, antisera, monoclonal antibodies. Use of microorganisms in manufacture of pharmaceutical products. Probiotics. Biofilms. Environmental monitoring. Water testing. Disinfectant testing. Pyrogen testing.
