Virtualisation Infrastructure Management

This module is designed to provide the student with both a practical and theoretical understanding of the technical issues associated with designing, building and managing a private cloud infrastructure. The technologies reviewed will include virtualisation, distributed computing, cloud storage, security within the cloud in addition to reviewing a number of existing cloud infrastructures.

Cloud benefits, cloud evolution characteristics, deployment & service models, multi- tenancy issues, cloud computing vendors and products: Amazon, Google, Microsoft etc, cloud services delivery, service types.

DISTRIBUTED STORAGE COMPONENTS

Network Storage; SAN, NAS. Distributed OS requirements. ISCSI implementations, Hard Disk Redundancy; RAID configurations, mirroring & replication. Virtual machines Clustering.

CLOUD SECURITY

Cloud Computing threats, Legal and Electronic Discovery Risk Management Security Recommendations. Customer responsibilities, Compliance. Audit Security Recommendations. Information Lifecycle Management: Key challenges regarding data lifecycle security, Data Security Recommendations. Physical data centre security.

BUILDING & DEPLOYING INFRASTRUCTURE AS A SERVICE (IaaS)

Enabling technologies; Scalable server clusters. Transparency with platform. Virtualization, Elastic storage devices, Accessing IaaS; Provisioning servers on demand Handling dynamic and static IP addresses, Tools and support for management and monitoring. Cloud Distributed File Systems HDFS; Storage, Security, Redundancy and Resilience.
