Content Management

To enable students to obtain a broad knowledge of the nature and application of web applications and social media in business and to learn different web authoring programmes with a view to developing a simple site using one such programme. The module will also provide students with the know how to develop a social media strategy and use that strategy effectively to achieve business goals.

The Internet and the World Wide Web

History of the internet and the world wide web.Best practice in the discipline of Content Management. Overview of web applications. Introduction to content creation software and content management systems (e.g. Word Press, Squarespace,Wix etc.)

Web Site Design and Development

Design guidelines and methodologies. Technical issues (e.g. bandwidth, media size, compression, streaming). Graphics formats. Basic web site construction and site management. Overview of content management systems with an emphasis on "The Discipline Versus the Software".

Media Content

Sourcing media (e.g. images, graphics). Media formats, animation, audio and video content. Graphics editing and conversion.

Social Media Technologies

Overview of current social media technologies and their applications.

An overview of how e-Business might apply to hospitality and tourism businesses

Social media strategies for business. E-procurement benefits. Distribution channels. Advertising & promotion. Cloud Computing Services. Portal e-business models.

Digital sessions in bespoke computer lab.  Group discussions - Topical, Ethical & Career orientated. Tutorials/Crits, Field Trip. Guest Lecturer. Graduate visits. Meal experience.
