All Arts students must study a core curriculum, which is is broken into both Mandatory and Elective Modules categories
In your mandatory courses, you'll dive into Techne – an ancient Greek idea about skilled, purposeful creation or art. Think of it as knowledge you put into practice to make or produce something meaningful. This part of your studies will be worth 30 ECTS credits.
Technology in Society
You'll learn how technology changes everything from our environment and industries to our culture, and then use that knowledge to work with others on projects that make a real difference in the world.
Sites of Industrial Ecology
This course looks at Ireland's major infrastructure projects, like the Shannon hydroelectric scheme, to understand why they were built, how they worked, and what they tell us about engineering, politics, and Irish identity, with trips to the actual locations.
Imagining Technology
In this course, you'll explore how technology impacts us through analyzing cool science fiction and modern classic films and books. We'll tackle themes like AI, what's ethical, and how to live sustainably, sharpening your critical thinking and discussion skills along the way.
Mind Body & Technology
We'll examine how old Western ideas that separate the mind from the body have contributed to issues like sexism, racism, and environmental problems. This course will show you how our thoughts are deeply linked to our bodies and technology, encouraging you to think critically and get involved in practical solutions.
Memory & Technology
You'll explore how digital devices, data storage, and even surveillance influence what we remember and who controls that information in the digital age. We'll investigate everything from file formats and cookies to the bigger questions about accessing and preserving memories. Plus, we'll think about the environmental and ethical downsides of storing so much data.
In your elective courses, you'll pick ONE module from each of these categories. These choices help you meet the program's overall general education requirements and add up to 50 ECTS credits.
You'll choose from exciting areas like:
Quantitative Analysis (Think numbers and Data)
Writing and Textual Analysis (Improving your writing and understanding texts)
Health, Wellness, and Sport (Looking after yourself)
Sustainability (Learning about a greener future)
