Dr Martina Coombes is a Senior Lecturer in the School ofSocial Science Law and Education at the Technological University Dublin. She specialises in the area of outdoor and risky play, curriculum and child protection. Martina has been involved in the development and co-ordination of a number of degree programmes in TU Dublin and has served on a number of State Boards including Oberstown Children’s Detention Service and on the Arbour Hill Prison Committee serving as Chairperson for a number of years. Martina currently serves on the Board of Management and as the Chairperson of a community based Early Years Service in Ronanstown.

In addition to her lecturing and curriculum development Martina is very engaged with community collaboration and helped to form an early years sector consortium whom we regularly consult and access input in relation to new programme development and reviews. She is also involved in a number of university committees including the Academic Quality Enhancement Committee (AQEC) and she has co authored the Work Practice and Placement book for Early Years.

Her current research interest are in relation to Aistear implementation, the role of curriculum and curriculum positions in early years education and care.
