Dr Ralf Burbach Appointed Head of School of Tourism and Hospitality Management at TU Dublin

TU Dublin is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Ralf Burbach as Head of School, School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, effective April 2025.

Dr Burbach brings over two decades of academic leadership and professional hospitality experience to this role. Since joining TU Dublin in 2011, he has served as Head of the Hospitality Management Discipline, where he has played a pivotal role in advancing the School’s reputation for excellence in teaching, research, transnational education and industry engagement.

Prior to his academic career, Dr Burbach accumulated thirteen years of management experience in the hospitality sector, holding management positions in Germany, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. His extensive industry background informs his approach to education, ensuring that TU Dublin graduates are equipped with the skills and knowledge required to thrive in a global hospitality and tourism landscape.

Dr Burbach is a prominent figure in international hospitality education. He currently serves as President of the Hotel Schools of Distinction and is a Board Member of the Irish Hospitality Institute. He is also a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. His past leadership roles include Past President of the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (ICHRIE) and Past President of EuroCHRIE, its European Federation. As a transnational education expert, he manages TU Dublin’s largest international programme, a joint BSc in Event Management with Hainan University, China.

Dr Burbach’s research focuses on international talent management, digital HRM, and vocational training systems. He is a sought-after keynote speaker and has published extensively, including book chapters, an edited volume, and numerous journal articles in his areas of expertise.

 Speaking on his appointment, Dr Burbach said:
