Third Health Hackathon Announced
TU Dublin and Tallaght University Hospital have confirmed the third health hackathon, an event that is supported by Amazon Web Services, will take place on 22-23 September.
The event will see students from across TU Dublin come together to solve challenges set by clinicians. Each project group is given time with the clinicians to ask more detailed questions to fully understand the brief, with the development of the concept considered a very important element of the final scoring.
This year, the winning projects will be selected in four award categories, including Innovation with the greatest potential, Best Use of Technology, Innovation with greatest patient benefit and Most innovative solution.
“I cannot wait for this event; each year, the students and their suggestions are so well thought out and articulated; I leave the event having learnt something each year and excited as to how the projects can be implemented in TUH but also benefit the wider healthcare settings.” Lucy Nugent, Chief Executive Officer, TUH.
Commenting on the event, Mr Seán McHugh, Head of Discipline, School of Enterprise Computing and Digital Transformation at TU Dublin, said: "Students have the opportunity to work together to unlock the potential of Healthcare's future where their fresh innovation mindsets and perspectives collaborate to create digital transformation and "tech for good" solutions for real-world impact to current healthcare and societal challenges."
“We’re delighted to be supporting the Health Hackathon again for the third year in collaboration with TUH and TU Dublin. The Health Hackathon really challenges students to think big, and we’re excited to see how the participants will leverage AWS technologies to tackle challenges that are faced by hospital clinicians in a real-life healthcare setting. Even more exciting is the potential for these solutions to be fully developed and implemented to benefit patients and the wider hospital community,” said Joanne Reynolds, Community Engagement Manager, AWS
David Wall, Chief Information Officer at TUH "We are at the forefront of Innovation at TUH, and this event is a fantastic opportunity to introduce students to Innovation in healthcare, providing them with practical challenges that we need solutions for.
