The Spark
The Spark is a learning-by-doing community wealth-building and climate action project led by Bohemian Football Club, partnering with TU Dublin and a number of other local and national organisations, that aims to inspire and empower the Dublin 7 community through capacity development to lay the foundations of a functioning climate cooperative.
Building from the long-lasting and deeply rooted relationships Bohemian Football Club (a 134-year old cooperative) have with the local community, the Spark aims to foster a new culture for cooperativism and climate action that seeks to empower and enhance the local community. The Spark will foster this new cooperative culture through the cooperative education programme, Spark Skills, which upskills participants in practical skills relating to bike mechanics, solar power and home energy efficiency. The Spark also aims to bring cooperative climate action education to kids, with the introduction of an afterschool programme in Dublin 7.
To further facilitate a cooperative sharing culture, the Spark will set up a 'Library of Things' and a 'Bike Library', helping our community to engage more in the circular economy, while making expensive and infrequently used items more accessible to people who need them most. With partnership from TU Dublin, the Spark will produce state-of-the-art research to guide the future of climate action research, issuing recommendations to better help anchor institutions and their communities to undertake more wide-spread and meaningful climate action based in justice and cooperation.
