New Industry-focused Certificate in Foundations of Artificial Intelligence to be Accredited by TU Dublin

Published: 30 Nov, 2021

TU Dublin Computer Science recently announced the successful validation of a new ‘Foundations of AI’ course

The new course will be a Joint collaboration between TU Dublin Computer Science and three other stakeholders including KrisolisICT Skillnet and Women in AI. The new course will be accredited by TU Dublin and delivered by Krisolis (formerly the Analytics Store), funded by ICT Skillnet and supported by Irish Chapter of the Women in AI. The idea behind the course is to address gaps in the skills development of AI talent in Ireland, and in a broader sense it will look to enhance Ireland’s position as a leader in this rapidly growing sector. The course is specifically targeted at individuals who may have an interest in transitioning into the AI disciplines but who do not necessarily have a background in AI.

Professor Sarah Jane Delany from the School of Computer Science at TU Dublin, a key architect in its development, welcomed the course’s recent validation:

"We are delighted to be partnering with Krisolis, Technology Ireland ICT Skillnet and Women in AI in delivering this programme. AI as a discipline is growing in importance with companies increasingly turning to machine learning, robots, and other AI based technologies to enhance their business performance. This programme provides students with the key skills and concepts to facilitate them beginning a career in AI or continuing to further study in the field. This innovative programme aligns with our goals of learning pathways, real world impact and inclusion and we are delighted to be a part of this initiative."

The course itself has been developed as a Level 8 10 ECTS Continuing Professional Development Certificate with the first cohort of 35 students starting on November 23rd 2020. It will be an online 12-week instructor-led course which will also include one-to-one mentoring sessions.

The course will provide students with an Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and move on to cover several key areas within the discipline including:

The course is still open to eligible applicants with 25 fully funded places available.
