Dr. Andrew Marsh hosts Anastasia Negru from MarginsAI and Aisling Maher from Mooze Vegan for the inaugural Spin Out Webinar – ‘Should I Start My Own Business?’. Staff, Students and Researchers will have the opportunity to learn more about the supports available in TU Dublin and whether this is the right option to commercialise your research.

Kieran Fegan from VARA Consulting will discuss the idea of the Lean Start-up, and how to start creating and testing business models. These methods are ideal for early-stage technology businesses. This session will cover some of the basic tools used including the Business Model Canvas.

26th April 2022

Dr. Andrew Marsh will cover what it means to "Spin-out" company from research and some of the most important things to consider; building a team and raising finance. He will be joined by TU Dublin researchers who previously engaged in this process: Dan Barry from SonicLadder, and Dr. Suzanne Martin and Prof Izabela Naydenova from Optrace.

24th May 2022

The Enterprise Ireland Commercialisation Fund is the main source of funding to develop the technology and team for a spin-out company, with funding of up to €500k available. Tom Melia and Majella Maher from Enterprise Ireland will give an overview of the fund, and TU Dublin researcher Dr. Iftekhar Hussain will discuss his experience with the programme.

 

29th June 2022

To secure investment any spin-out will need to have clear understanding of their Intellectual Property and how to protect it from competitors and imitators. In this session Kate Hickinson and Howard Read; Patent Attorneys with Appleyard Lees will cover the basics of IP, including patents, trademarks and copyright.

19th July 2022

In the early stage after spinning out many researchers will act as directors for the spin-out company. Shane Costelloe; Senior Associate Solicitor with Holmes will take us through the roles and responsibilities of being a director for an early-stage business.
