Module Overview

Graduate Entry - Respiratory Physiology 1

This module is concerned with the use of Clinical Respiratory Physiology in relation to patient evaluation and possible diagnosis. The module comprises of taught academic material and an eight week long clinical
placement in an appropriate Clinical Respiratory Diagnostics Department. The aim of the module is to develop a conceptual and applied understanding of the role of Respiratory diagnostic measurement methods in a clinical setting. It aims to develop the key skills required for a student to work in a Department of Clinical Respiratory Diagnostics and conduct some of the basic examination procedures. Students will also be exposed to and develop their knowledge in relation to advanced methods of clinical respiratory diagnostic testing. It is also an aim that students can integrate their knowledge in auxiliary areas of clinical practice to their understanding of respiratory physiology. The student will gain an understanding of the principles and practice of clinical laboratory practice and clinical conduct as well as having the opportunity to work as part of an interdisciplinary team in a clinical setting.
