Graduate Business School This project is part of a funded HEA initiative with Polytechnics of Canada and involves TU Dublin Faculty of Business partnering on a funded initiative with Humber Polytechnic in Canada. Over €45k in funding has been secured. The project seeks to reimagine learning, specifically understanding how best to optimise both physical and virtual learning environments and how they interconnect to create a highly experiential, enjoyable and impactful learning experience for third level students.

The project leverages the significant experience and expertise of both partners. It provides opportunities for staff development and engages students in a collaborative manner to enhance the learning experience for them and for future students.

The project encompasses three phases:

Phase 1:
A reimagination of the physical classroom by creating a 'sandbox' to experiment with different formats and approaches and using multiple technologies such as mapping tools and Virtual Reality.

Phase 2:
A reimagination of the virtual classroom - using a sustainability challenge (with a digital badge) completed by teams made up of Irish and Canadian students to enable students to experiment with different learning approaches and a variety of tools to co-create an enjoyable learning experience and provide feedback on how we can optimise the experience for future students.

Phase 3:
A reflection on how to create a strong blended experience, by combining optimised physical and virtual environments.

The initiative has a distinct focus on digital transformation with the learning environment and also utilises an applied project on the theme of Sustainability and AI as a mechanism to engage students and encourage collaboration in a virtual learning environment.

The project will produce a series of outputs which will provide detailed guidance for third level Faculty members into the future, thus having a widespread impact within Irish and Canadian HEIs.

This project, ongoing until Autumn 2026, will utilise a mix of VR headsets, smart TV screens, and 3D mapping of learning spaces in TU Dublin and Humber Polytechnic. A dedicated learning space for this project has also been identified in Aungier Street, Floor 4.
