The School of Media and the School of Art & Design are co-hosting “Creating the News of the Future” on November 13th, organised by Typography Ireland and funded by Design Week 2026 and the Culture & Society Research Hub.

Editorial design is an often overlooked dimension of media literacy, news and current affairs, yet it plays a vital role in reaching and engaging readers, and in building and sustaining audiences. This event seeks to foreground and stimulate debate on the role of design in contemporary news dissemination.
By bringing together key practitioners, we aim to discuss the challenges and developments in this area. Speakers include two of the most prominent figures in international newspaper and magazine design of the last 30 years: Mark Porter and Francesco Franchi. Local participants include Scott Burnett from Wove, James Kelleher of Publicis Dublin, Stephanie Costello, Journalist and lecturer at TU Dublin School of Media.
