GenAI Event (Hybrid) with Leon Furze - The AI Assessment Scale in Practice, Examples from the Disciplines
The AI Assessment Scale in Practice: Examples from the Disciplines
What forms of AI use are acceptable in Assessment? How can assessment remain valid, fair, and inclusive? And how do we move beyond generalisations to disciplinary-grounded practices?

Invitation
The Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) team at TU Dublin is pleased to invite staff across the University to join us for this hybrid GenAI for Teaching and Learning session with Dr Leon Furze, co‑author of the AI Assessment Scale and internationally recognised expert in its implementation across diverse higher education contexts.
This activity is in partnership with the South East Technological University (SETU).
The session will take place on Friday, 29 May 2026 at 10am. Join us online (from 10-11) or in-person (from 10-12) in EQ-116 in Grangegorman (with tea, coffee, pastries). Register now here.
What is the AI Assessment Scale?
The AI Assessment Scale is a practical framework to guide the appropriate and ethical use of generative AI in assessment design, empowering educators to make purposeful, evidence-based decisions. Read more here.
Session Outline
This session will focus on practical, discipline‑specific, and contextually relevant applications of the AI Assessment Scale in authentic assessment scenarios. Emphasis will be placed on applied assessment design rather than theoretical debate. Participants will examine concrete examples of assessment practices that align effectively with the AI Assessment Scale, alongside illustrative cases where misalignment has resulted in ambiguity, academic integrity challenges, or unintended pedagogical outcomes.
The activity is intended to support informed, consistent, and transparent assessment design in AI‑enabled learning environments. Academic staff, including lecturers, module and programme coordinators, and colleagues involved in academic policy development and implementation, are therefore strongly encouraged to attend.
Participants attending in person at TU Dublin are invited to stay on after the webinar for coffee and pastries, providing a collegial space to continue the conversation, share practices, and reflect collectively on next steps for assessment design within their programmes.
Session Aims
This session aims to:
- Analyse disciplinary and practical uses of the AI Assessment Scale, identifying appropriate and transparent levels of AI use aligned with learning outcomes and academic integrity expectations.
- Evaluate practical disciplinary examples of assessment design involving generative AI, distinguishing between effective approaches and problematic practices, and articulating principles for future assessment redesign.
Next Event in Series
This is the first event in a mini-series of two events with Leon Furze, organised in partnership between TU Dublin and South-East Technological University.
The second event in the series will take place on 10 June 2026 at 10am in South-East Technological University and online. TU Dublin staff can attend online.
Recording
The event will be recorded and the link will be made available to staff afterwards.
