Published: 30 Nov, 2023

Lecturer and chair of the Visual Communication programme, Ben Readman's short film 'Ouroboros' was shown on giant screens at the Dubai Airport and at COP28 during the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2023.

"Ouroboros " by Ben Readman is an audio-visual wordless narrative that engages with emotional, psychological, mythological, and philosophical discourse on topics such as climate anxiety, migration, grief, and life cycles within the Anthropocene context. It narrates the journey of a mysterious avian humanoid from its origin through an existential voyage of exploration, achievement, and enlightenment to its demise and subsequent metamorphosis. The hero character urges us to listen to and learn from the collective acquired wisdom over millennia of existence. The film features diverse global landscapes, prehistoric animals, the cosmos, and the sublime in nature, serving as a metaphor for the interconnectedness of all life on Earth". Sound by Hélène Vogelsinger.
