Dr. Brian Fay lectures in TU974 Fine Art and TU978 Creative Industries and Visual Culture at the TU Dublin School of Art and Design. His practice, rooted in drawing, uses the materiality of pre-existing artworks and objects to examine our complex relation to time.

He recently completed a national touring survey show which opened in the Highlanes Gallery Drogheda then to Limerick City Gallery of Art and Uillinn West Cork Arts Centre, Cork, Ireland. Other exhibitions include An Artists Presence, National Gallery of Ireland, To Something that went before (CSdeK), Oonagh Young Gallery, Dublin, After Vermeer: Inspiration and Rivalry, National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin Broken Images or When does Posterity Begin?, Ashford Gallery, Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin, Motion Capture: Drawing and the Moving Image, Lewis Glucksman Gallery, Cork, Fine Lines: a selection from the National Collection of Contemporary Drawing, Limerick City Gallery of Art and Other Men’s Flowers, Dublin City Gallery: The Hugh Lane.  In 2021 he was awarded a 3 year studio membership with Temple Bar Gallery and Studios, Dublin.  He was invited to undertake an artist residency at the Anni and Josef Albers Foundation, Connecticut, USA in 2022. In 2014 he was the winner of the Derwent International Drawing Prize and the RHA AXA Drawing Prize in 2016.

His work is in the collections of National Gallery of Ireland, Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaín Collection, The Irish National Collection of Contemporary Drawing, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Art Collection, The Crawford Art Gallery, University College Cork, The Office of Public Works, Technological University Dublin and Private Collections.

He completed a practice led PhD at Northumbria University on Drawing, Temporality and the Museum.
