Printed matter from the collection of Peter Maybury
As part of TU973-4 Visual Communication study, each semester we make available this collection of printed matter. Spanning 100 years of printing it includes cinema posters, music manuscripts, LP covers, and numerous books, magazine, pamphlets, leaflets and zines. While the display is open to anyone on campus, we use it specifically as a resource for fourth year students in developing their ISTD (International Society of Typographic Designers) projects. Through the hands-on encounter with the printed material students gain insights into the nature of printed matter, how to organise material and develop a rich encounter for the reader.
