subtext: A Critical Media Symposium
On Friday 23 October 2026, lecturers Siobhán Enright, Nina Lyons, and Irene McGinn from the Creative Digital Media programme at TU Dublin’s Blanchardstown campus hosted subtext: A Critical Media Symposium, bringing together current students and graduates of the programme to share work, exchange ideas, and engage in critical conversation about media practice today.
subtext grew out of a simple observation: that students were producing thoughtful, critically engaged work that rarely had a proper public forum beyond the classroom. The symposium was conceived as a space to change that, and to give graduates a continued connection to the programme and to each other.
The event, which ran across a full day of panels, screenings, and a poster and image display session, was well-attended and the work on show was warmly received. Submissions spanned film screenings, presentations of research and practice-base work, and exhibition of image-based practice, reflecting the breadth and depth of critical engagement happening across the programme.
The event was supported by STAND’s GCE Micro Grant Scheme, funded by Irish Aid, and by TU Dublin PATH 4 Inclusive Environment. Given the success of this initial event, subtext is planned to return again next year.
