IHI, Doyle Collection and Conrad Dublin Speak to International Tourism and Hospitality Management Students on Global Tourism Resilience Day
Guest speakers Tina Maree, Irish Hospitality Institute (IHI), Alan Smullen, Doyle Collection & Niamh Jordan, Conrad Dublin, spoke to first years from the International Tourism and Hospitality Management programme on the Tallaght campus on Tuesday 17th February. The talks were designed to allow organisations to showcase their Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) initiatives so the students can find inspiration for their Cultural Intelligence challenge.
This year students have been tasked with developing a sustainable EDI onboarding strategy for new hires in the HTLE sector. Both Alan and Niamh spoke about their organisations EDI initiatives. Tina meanwhile spoke about the IHI, how they can join, the Mentor Matters programme and the value of networking.
Students work through the Human Centred Design approach (inspiration, ideation & implementation) to come up with a solution to the CQ challenge. Guest talks are part of the 'inspiration' phase. Tina, Alan and Niamh will ba back in April to judge the students' pitches in a 'Dragons Den' style set up.
Tuesday 17th February was also Global Tourism Resilience Day and these talks were a good way of marking it. EDI initiatives are an excellent way of ensuring that the Tourism industry and the industries linked to it remain innovative and dynamic by allowing for different voices from diverse groups to be heard and have their decisions and opinions make a real difference.
