On Thursday, 23rd October, students from TU Dublin embarked on an inspiring field trip to Tullamore Court Hotel and Lough Boora Discovery Park, diving deep into the heart of regenerative tourism and enterprise development in Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands.

The day began with engaging talks from industry leaders including Caren Carruthers (Fáilte Ireland), Lisa Molloy (Local Enterprise Office Offaly), and Olive Farrelly (Offaly County Council), who shared insights on sustainable tourism, local enterprise supports, and strategic development across the region.

After a lively Q&A and networking session, students travelled to Lough Boora Discovery Park for a talk and tour, exploring how nature, community, and tourism intersect to create meaningful visitor experiences and economic opportunities.

This immersive experience highlighted the importance of regenerative tourism, where the goal is not just sustainability but revitalising rural communities and ecosystems through thoughtful tourism development.
