User Research and Design

In this Tech-Ed for Good Video, Dr Emma Murphy, a Lecturer in the School of Computer Science, TU Dublin talks about her research and teaching in Human Centred Design.  She highlights that even though we have decades of research and evidence identifying people who are at risk of discrimination, new technologies are still being created that exclude or discriminate against marginalised groups. User research involves exploring and understanding the lived experiences and perspectives of the users of technical systems. This can help us to identify barriers and points of exclusion in order to redesign existing systems, or to create new inclusive technologies. And beyond user research the continuous involvement of end users, and any stakeholders impacted by technical systems is crucial to address exclusion and promote inclusive human centred design.
