Emma Geoghegan is a registered architect and Head of Architecture at the School of Architecture, Building and Environment, TU Dublin.

Emma studied in London and Edinburgh graduating in 2002 with an MArch from University of Edinburgh. She completed her professional studies at the Architectural Association registering with the ARB and RIBA in 2004, and RIAI in 2008. After working for practices in London focussing on healthcare and university projects she co-founded an award winning collaborative practice, MEME Architecture (2007-2017) working on community, educational and residential projects in the UK and Ireland.

In 2009 Emma completed an MSc in Urban Design at UCD investigating the edge conditions of small Irish towns and in 2011 was awarded an Irish Arts Council Architecture Bursary to continue this research. Other research interests include inclusive design, participatory design approaches and the life of buildings in use. 

Emma was elected to RIAI Council in 2018 and subsequently elected RIAI Vice President in January 2020 with the particular remit of engaging with architectural education and the development of the new RIAI Cultivating Research scheme. She is a member of the RIAI Board of Architectural Education, served on the RIAI Architecture and Public Affairs Committee from 2016-2018 and has been a jury member for the annual Irish Architecture Awards on a number of occasions.  Emma is also a member of the Irish Architecture Foundation Reimagine Place expert panel and provides guidance to local authorities and community organisations on accessible and inclusive public realm design and participatory design processes. Actively involved in voluntary organisations in the arts, culture and disability sectors, she is a board member of Arts and Disability Ireland and VISUAL Carlow.

Emma has been teaching at TU Dublin since 2008 and was Acting Assistant Head of School from April 2017 - July 2018. She was also Programme Chair for TU832 Bachelor of Architecture (Hons) from 2017 – 2021.
