The 44th Chem-Ed Ireland Conference takes place in Dublin on Saturday October 18th from 10.00 am to 4pm in Technological University Dublin in the Central Quad building on our Grangegorman Campus (convenient to the luas red and green lines and a short walk from the city centre). This will be the first time that we will get to welcome Chem-Ed participants to our new Grangegorman campus.

Registration on the day begins at 9.30 am and tea and coffee will be available. This annual event provides an opportunity to share resources and ideas relevant to teaching chemistry and science in secondary schools in Ireland.

The conference theme is Chemistry is Everywhere and we are delighted to welcome our two invited speakers;

Louise Hussein, a regular contributor of teaching resources and articles to Education in Chemistry on topics including atomic structure, electrochemistry, the carbon cycle and metacognition.

Associate Prof Susan Kelleher who has used chemistry to investigate a wide range of challenges including recycling of textile waste, developing sustainable petri dishes and studying lunar dust.

Workshops will also take place and will include;

-From CBA’s to AAC’s: How to Write a Lab Report by Dr John O’Donoghue, RSC Education Coordinator;

-Escape room type puzzles on core chemistry topics;

-Teaching titration curves and pH (Sean Kelleher and the Oide team)
