Minister of State Mary Butler Launches Suicide or Survive Five-Year Strategic Plan in Grangegorman

In May, Suicide or Survive launched its new five-year strategic plan, Courageous Conversations for Suicide Prevention in Ireland 2026–2030, at St. Laurence’s Church on TU Dublin’s Grangegorman Campus.

The strategy was officially launched by Mary Butler TD, Government Chief Whip and Minister of State with responsibility for Mental Health, alongside Suicide or Survive staff and Board Members, representatives from the statutory, community, voluntary, trusts and foundation sectors, as well as volunteers, supporters, programme participants, and people with lived and living experience of suicide.

Minister Butler was welcomed to campus by Dr Brian Murphy, Government and Community Advocacy Lead, and Mary Cooke, Chair of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the Governing Body.

Based on the belief that “courageous conversations can and do prevent suicide”, the strategy outlines Suicide or Survive’s vision for the next five years: an Ireland where people have the courage to speak openly about suicide and the space to be heard, so that hope is possible even on the darkest of days. The strategy is underpinned by the organisation’s core values of Courage, Hope, Compassion and Understanding.

The launch event was facilitated by the Partnerships team at TU Dublin and reflects the university’s ongoing commitment to meaningful engagement with community organisations and initiatives that support health, wellbeing and social inclusion.

Speaking after the event, Dr Brian Murphy, Government and Community Advocacy Lead, said:

“We were proud to support Suicide or Survive in hosting the launch of Courageous Conversations for Suicide Prevention in Ireland 2026–2030 on our Grangegorman Campus, reflecting TU Dublin’s commitment to fostering open and meaningful dialogue on mental health and wellbeing and strengthening collaboration with community partners.”
