TU Dublin Economics and Finance Students Win First Prize at Goodbody Student Managed Fund Competition
Students from the TU905 BSc Economics and Finance programme at TU Dublin have achieved outstanding success, winning first prize at the prestigious Goodbody Student Managed Fund Competition on Monday, 20 April.
The winning team was led by Head of Fund Matas Galinis alongside Chief Investment Officer Petar Martic. The analyst team included Ben Freeney, Cathal Ennis, Hamzat Salam, Harry Fennell, Kawana Brancallião, Joshua Molyneux, and Luka Chepikov.
This impressive achievement reflects the extensive research, rigorous analysis, dedication, and commitment demonstrated by students throughout the competition, with strong academic support provided by their Investment and Portfolio Management lecturer, Ruth O’Leary.
The competition, an initiative by Goodbody, offers third-level students a valuable opportunity to gain real-world experience in investment management by applying theoretical knowledge in a practical setting. Participants are challenged to manage a simulated investment portfolio, developing strategies based on macroeconomic trends and company fundamentals.
Throughout the competition, the TU Dublin team applied advanced analytical and technical skills developed on the BSc Economics and Finance programme. Their work included macroeconomic analysis, company valuation, and sector research, identifying key growth drivers and assessing risks to support the efficient long-term allocation of funds.
In addition to their technical expertise, the team demonstrated strong capabilities in pitching investment ideas, communication, teamwork, and collaboration, key skills that are highly valued in the financial services industry.
This result marks a significant achievement for TU Dublin, highlighting the strength of its Economics and Finance programme and its commitment to preparing students for successful careers in investment and financial analysis.
