TU Dublin recognised by Shamrock Rovers for landmark women’s football partnership
TU Dublin has been recognised by Shamrock Rovers for its partnership supporting the continued development of women’s football in Ireland.
The recognition award was presented to TU Dublin at half-time during Shamrock Rovers’ League of Ireland Premier Division fixture against Shelbourne FC at Tallaght Stadium on Friday 4 September. The presentation also celebrated a number of young Shamrock Rovers women players who have represented Ireland at international level.
The award acknowledges the University's landmark strategic partnership with Shamrock Rovers, which has seen TU Dublin’s Tallaght Campus become a training and performance base for the club’s Women’s First Team, U23 and U17 National League squads.
The partnership brings together two leading organisations in South Dublin with a shared ambition to support high-performance sport, create educational opportunities and strengthen engagement with the local community.
Through the collaboration, Shamrock Rovers players have access to TU Dublin’s outdoor pitches, high-performance gym, sports hub, changing facilities and video analysis facilities. The Tallaght Campus has also hosted Women’s National League and Women’s Cup fixtures, further establishing the campus as a centre for elite women’s football.
Sally Anne Sherry, Director of People and Operations at TU Dublin, said the partnership reflects the University’s commitment to supporting athletes both on and off the pitch.
“TU Dublin is delighted to partner with Shamrock Rovers and support the continued growth of women’s football through a shared commitment to excellence, opportunity and community engagement.”
She added that the partnership would help build stronger connections between education, sport and the wider South Dublin community.
"We hope to support the development of current and future generations of female athletes, while inspiring more young women and girls to engage in football and pursue their ambitions.”
Niamh O’Callaghan, Sport Pathways & Performance Manager at TU Dublin, said the partnership creates valuable opportunities for athletes to combine sporting and academic development.
"This partnership provides an excellent platform for athletes to thrive both on and off the pitch, while creating meaningful pathways between high-performance sport and education.”
The collaboration builds on an existing relationship between TU Dublin and Shamrock Rovers and supports the University's wider commitment to high-performance sport. It also creates opportunities for student engagement, research collaboration, educational pathways and community outreach.
Community engagement is central to the partnership, with TU Dublin and Shamrock Rovers working together to encourage greater participation among young women and girls, while advancing women’s football in Ireland and strengthening the links between higher education, elite sport and the local community.
