Relay for Life for Irish Cancer Society at TU Dublin

Published: 18 Feb, 2021

The Irish Cancer Society’s Relay for Life is a fundraising event that brings communities together to celebrate the lives of cancer survivors, to remember those lost to the disease.

It is also a chance to fight back by increasing our knowledge of cancer and raising money to fund life-saving cancer research and free services for cancer patients and their loved ones.

Relay for Life TU Dublin Challenge

The challenge is to Run/Walk 155 km in March, which works out at about 5km per day. It’s completely up to you how fast you go and what routes you take. All that matters is that you post the distances to your Team/Individual Just Giving pages daily/weekly.  This challenge is open to all TU Dublin students, staff, family, and friends.

How to track your kilometres

The best way is to use an app on your phone to track your km, and then post screenshots of your km to your Just Giving page; you can download Map My Run/Strava or a similar app.  Otherwise, a Fitbit or activity tracker will also work.

How to raise funds

Individuals and teams will raise funds through sponsorship of the Challenge and by selling Candles of Hope Bags; these candles are to remember those who have passed away, to celebrate those who have survived and those fighting cancer.

Teams

A Team can consist of between 10 and 15 members, and the fundraising target per team is €500. The cost to register a team is €100.00, and you can register here, and you can set up your Just Giving page here.

Individual

An individual's target is to raise €150.00, and the cost per Individual to register is €10.00. You can register here and set up your Just Giving page here.

Closing Candle of Hope Ceremony

Closing Candle of Hope Ceremony will be live-streamed on Wednesday, 31 March at 19:50. This moving event is a chance for you to remember those who have passed away to cancer and celebrate those you have won their battle with cancer or support those who are still battling the illness.  TU Dublin Chaplain Dr Alan Hilliard will say a few words and prayer with all the candles of hope lit.
