Student Start-Ups battle for cash prize after summer ‘ivenTUre’
TU Dublin today hosts the final of ivenTUre, a student entrepreneur accelerator, with a live pitch competition.
TU Dublin today hosts the final of the ivenTUre student entrepreneur accelerator, which completes today with an online pitching competition. ivenTUre supports students of TU Dublin in exploring any entrepreneurial opportunity of their interest, with participating ideas ranging from social enterprise to tech.
After an overwhelming amount of applications, 38 students from across the University were selected to participate. The accelerator provided expert mentorship and guidance and access to the next stage, supports through the three campus incubators and a vast entrepreneurship ecosystem of supports and funding available through TU Dublin.
Commenting on the final, Claire Mac Namee of TU Dublin said: “ivenTUre provides our student innovators with the structure and to explore their entrepreneurial concepts, test their hypotheses, use feedback to revise their assumptions and improve the design of their product or service. ivenTUre is just the start of the journey. Following the programme, many participants receive supports from academic schools, research centres and the knowledge transfer office at the University, while others go on to take part in New Frontiers, Ireland’s national entrepreneur development programme, delivered on the three campuses of TU Dublin. ”
The ivenTUre 2021 finalists are:
- McCaffrey Medical – a microbiology lab testing water samples from reusable, invasive, medical devices.
- Virago Femtech – a product enabling females to easily and intuitively track their fertility cycle at home.
- Smash – a wellness facility, designed to support peoples mental health and wellbeing.
- sheSTEM* - a networking app to support and encourage women in STEM.
- Loving Connemara – designed gifts and products capturing a little piece of Ireland.
- Sentry Fencing – an agricultural fencing system that is fast to erect, requires little maintenance and exceeds the lifetime of current fencing options, saving farmers time and money.
Today’s pitch final will be judged by Dr. Diarmuid O’Callaghan, Principal, TU Dublin, Joleen Looney, Co-founder, Content Llama and Andrew O’Neill, Head of Platform, Act VC.
