TU Dublin announced its new Sports Scholars

TU Dublin announced its new Sports Scholars when 63 student athletes were honoured and formally awarded a place on the University’s 2023-24 Athlete Support Programme.

Bill Carroll – Gaelic Football (MSc Digital and Content Marketing) - Bill is from the Cappincur Club in County Offaly. Bill has represented Offaly at senior football level since 2020. He won a Sigerson All Star Award in 2022. Bill’s ambition for the coming year is to win a Sigerson cup with TU Dublin.

Avice Meya – Swimming (MSc Public Relations) - Avice is a 2024 Olympic hopeful swim athlete. She has attended 8 world aquatics championships, 2 Commonwealth Games, 1 junior Commonwealth Games plus 2 All Africa Games which would be an equivalent of European Games. She is currently on the advisory board as an athlete for equity sport and Is on the committee as an athlete’s representative on the Uganda Olympics Committee.

Amy Sherdan – Para Swimming (Civil Engineering – 1st Year student) - Amy swims for the NAC (National Aquatic Centre swimming team) and Irish Paralympic swimming team. Amy holds multiple Irish national championships and national finals in front crawl and butterfly events. In 2022/23 swim season she qualified for World Para swimming championships and the Para World series events in the front crawl and 400m front crawl. She is currently working towards Paralympic qualification for Paris 2024, and we wish her every success for the year ahead.

Orla Sinnott – Camogie (MSc Child, Family and Community Studies) - A skilful hurler with lightening pace from the Ferns St Aidan’s club in Wexford, a division 1 league winner with the Wexford Seniors and current wing back on the Wexford senior camogie team. Orla has already established herself on the Ashbourne Cup team with her top-class performances in league.

Tim Tector – Cricket (Computer Science – 1st Year student) - Tim who is currently playing for Leinster domestically, is the Ireland u19 captain at the most recent u19 World Cup that took place in the Caribbean. Tim is on tour with the Irish team to play the West Indies in a 5-match series in the Caribbean.

Ronan O’Connor – Road (Business & Law – 1st Year student) - Ronan has been racing in Italy for the past 2 seasons with Team Colpack Ballan, taking part in UCI 1.1 and 1.2 ranked races with consistent top 30 finishes in many events. He hopes to continue racing in the European scene at UCI Continental level next season.

Ciagan Davoren – Volleyball (Sports Science & Health – 1st Year student) - Ciagan has representing Ireland as first Libero in 3 age groups in U20, U22, and Senior level, has been named as most valuable libero in International competitions and is a 2 time winner of Best Libero at U20 Small Country Association Championships. 2022 and 2023.
