Statement from the President of TU Dublin on Professorships
The President of TU Dublin, Dr Deirdre Lillis, has welcomed the announcement by the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, James Lawless TD, on the introduction of a Professorship grade across Ireland’s Technological Universities.
She noted that this represents a positive and important step in the ongoing development of Technological Universities and in working towards full parity of esteem for the sector.
“The introduction of a Professorship grade recognises the scale, ambition and maturity of the Technological University mission. It provides a foundation on which we can further strengthen academic leadership, research capacity and research-informed teaching across the sector.”
The President said TU Dublin looks forward to embedding the Professor grade within a coherent and sustainable academic career structure, aligned with the distinctive TU mission of applied research, innovation, regional engagement, practice-based learning and industry collaboration.
“These roles will play an important part in supporting research excellence, driving innovation and enterprise engagement, as well as enhancing the student learning experience. TU Dublin looks forward to working constructively with our social partners, particularly the Teachers’ Union of Ireland, the Department and our sectoral colleagues to support the successful introduction of the Professor grade in a manner that recognises parity of esteem and is grounded in meaningful engagement."
