TU Dublin Students Excel as University Hosts Prestigious International Construction Competition
The School of Surveying & Construction Innovation at TU Dublin proudly hosted the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Region 8 International Student Competition 2025, which opened on Wednesday, 5 November 2025, at the Iveagh Garden Hotel, Dublin.
The event brought together over 200 attendees, including 120 top construction management and built environment students from across Europe and the United States, who competed across four challenging competition tracks.
This year’s competition saw 22 teams take part, 17 of which were international collaborations representing 15 universities from Ireland, the UK, continental Europe, and the United States. Participating institutions included Technological University Dublin, Dundalk Institute of Technology, University of Limerick, Munster Technological University, Liverpool John Moores University, Czech Technological University, California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), Auburn University, University of Oklahoma, University of Denver, Clemson University South Carolina, Kent State University Ohio, Boise State University, Atlantic Technological University, and California State University, Chico.
At TU Dublin, education is about more than lectures and coursework, it’s about applying knowledge to real-world challenges. Our practice-based learning model blends academic theory with hands-on experience, ensuring every student develops the practical, creative, and collaborative skills that today’s industries demand.
The ASC competition perfectly reflects this ethos. For the first time, it featured four tracks, Sustainable Valuation and Development, Construction Management & Quantity Surveying, Project Management, and Design & Build. Each team was presented with a real-life industry project and tasked with developing strategic proposals covering key areas such as construction programming, site logistics, quality management, and estimating. Teams then presented their solutions to an expert judging panel of industry professionals, followed by in-depth Q&A sessions.
This competition mirrors TU Dublin’s commitment to learning through doing, bringing students and industry together to solve complex, authentic problems. Through collaboration, innovation, and applied research, participants gained insights that extend far beyond the classroom, developing the confidence and capability to lead in their professions.
The three-day event concluded on Friday, 7 November, with an awards reception celebrating creativity, technical skill, and teamwork. TU Dublin students excelled, achieving top placements across several tracks, a testament to the University’s approach of empowering students to translate knowledge into meaningful, real-world impact.
