TU Dublin Students Partner with Afri to Host Afri Hedge School 2025: Human Rights of Children and Youth

Published: Tue Nov 4 2025 - 15:10

TU Dublin Community Development and Youth Work (CDYW) Year 3 students and lecturers, in partnership with Afri (Action from Ireland), are proud to host the Afri Hedge School 2025 on Tuesday, 11 November, from 10:00am to 4:00pm at St. Laurence’s, Grangegorman Campus.

The theme for this year’s Hedge School is “Human Rights of Children and Youth.” The event will explore the local and global challenges faced by children and young people today, from homelessness and displacement to the devastating impacts of war and climate change.

“As future Community Development and Youth Workers, our students recognise that children and young people are among the most vulnerable members of society,” said Dr Liam McGlynn, a Lecturer in Community Development & Youth Work. “Across the world, children and young people are disproportionately affected by homelessness, conflict, and the climate crisis. The Afri Hedge School provides an important space to reflect on these realities, share learning, and advocate for the protection of children’s rights.”

The Afri Hedge School 2025 will bring together panellists with expertise in youth work, community development, and human rights, alongside participatory workshops led by Year 3 CDYW students. The day will also feature music, reflection, and opportunities for dialogue, with tea, coffee, and a light lunch provided.

Transport from the Blanchardstown Campus will be available, departing at 8:50am and returning by 5:00pm.

The event is free to attend, but booking is essential as spaces are limited. Attendees are asked to arrive by 9:30am for registration.
