Empowering Young Women With Practice-Based STEM Learning at TU Dublin’s "Coding4Girls" Summer Camp

TU Dublin proudly welcomed secondary school girls from 21 schools across Leinster to its Blanchardstown campus on Wednesday, 18 June 2025, for the one-day Coding4Girls Summer Camp. This dynamic, practice-based learning initiative is designed to spark interest in STEM and empower young women to imagine futures in technology and engineering.
This cross-Faculty event, a collaboration between the School of Informatics and Cybersecurity, the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and the School of Mechanical Engineering, showcased TU Dublin’s commitment to gender diversity and inclusion in STEM education. Through interactive workshops, participants were immersed in hands-on learning experiences that brought technology and engineering principles to life.
From coding challenges and robotics to AI-powered teachable machines and creative tower-building projects, each activity was led by expert faculty and designed to engage learners through doing. These experiential sessions not only introduced core STEM concepts but also encouraged critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration.
A highlight of the day was the opportunity for participants to connect informally with current TU Dublin female students in engineering and informatics. These peer-led conversations offered real-life insights into the university journey and STEM career pathways, helping to demystify the experience and foster a sense of belonging.
With lunch, goodie bags, and prizes adding to the sense of occasion, Coding4Girls created a welcoming, inclusive environment where young women could explore their potential in a supportive space and see first-hand how practice-based learning at TU Dublin empowers the next generation of innovators.
