In Photos: Dublin Book Festival 2025 at TU Dublin

TU Dublin partnered with Dublin Book Festival and Green Foundation Ireland for the first time to host Sustainability Here and Now a full day of events featuring authors whose writing explores sustainable development themes with depth, clarity and actionable insight. 

All events took place on November 5, 2025 in the beautiful surroundings of Lower House and were coordinated by Dr Olivia Freeman and Dr Brian Gormley, Sustainability Education Team and supported by TU Dublin Volunteers.

We welcomed 70 children from Stanhope Street National School and Paradise Place Educate Together National School and they had a lot of fun drawing along with Linda Fahrlin (illustrator) and Lucy Taylor (author) of The Illustrated Encyclopedia of the Irish Seashore.

 

Rewilding Our Future: Randal Plunkett and Catherine Cleary in conversation with Dr Ken Boyle

Dr Ken Boyle led a lively discussion with Randal Plunkett and Catherine Cleary who each shared their passion for Re-wilding. The Hare’s Corner (Cleary) named after the traditional farming practice of leaving field corners for wildlife invites readers to rediscover the beauty and wonders of their own urban and rural landscapes.

The Lie of the Land: John Gibbons in conversation with Prof Pat Brereton

Many TU Dublin staff, students and members of the wider community were eager to hear John Gibbons share powerful insights in relation to climate change with Prof, Pat Brereton. He points out that  

“The eyes of future generations are on this generation, silently urging us to act bravely and quickly on the climate emergency, to save them from an immiserated future in a collapsed biosphere. Will we rise to the moment and earn the right to be regarded as ‘good ancestors’?”

Eyes Open to Ireland’s Natural World: Anja Murray and Éanna Ní Lamhna in conversation with John Gormley

RTÉ Lyric FM’s Nature File Host Anja Murray Frog Routes, Polka-Dot Newts and other treasures of Irish Nature and RTÉ’S ÉannaLamhna Wild Dublin Exploring Nature in the City  provided the audience with a great reminder of how close we live to nature and how a reorienting of our perspectives and senses can help us slow down, value and protect our remaining biodiversity. John Gormley, Green Foundation Ireland chaired what was a highly energetic fun and uplifting discussion which provoked lots of Q&A from the audience too.

Catastrophe: Fintan Drury in conversation with Dr Ciaran O’Carroll

Sustainability Here and Now concluded with journalist and migration activist Fintan Drury’s Catastrophe: Nakba II. Fintan Drury shared with the audience accounts of the places he visited and people he met while researching this eye-opening book which addresses the decades-long oppression of the Palestinian people by Israel. An engaging discussion took place with audience members afterwards expertly chaired by TU Dublin’s Dr Ciaran O’Carroll.
